Today is Pansexual and Panromantic Pride Day. As a therapist dedicated to LGTQI+ affirmative counselling I am celebrating together with the community the unique experiences of our pansexual and panromantic members :-)
Pride Day is not just a cause for celebration, however. It provides a powerful reminder of the importance of affirming love in all its forms and the importance of fostering inclusivity in society.
Understanding Pansexuality and Panromanticism
For those unfamiliar with the terms, pansexuality is the sexual attraction to individuals regardless of gender identity.
Panromanticism emphasises the emotional and romanticattraction felt towards others, again regardless of gender identity.
A day of Celebration
For me, one of the most beautiful aspects of pansexuality and panromanticism is the fundamental belief that an individual’s gender identity goes far beyond the binary of male and female, incorporating queer, transgender, non-binary and gender fluid identities.
Embracing another person’s gender identity without judgement invites all of us to embrace the vast spectrum of lived experience. Today is a Pride Day on which to celebrate not only the identity of pansexual and panromantic individuals, but also to celebrate love without limitations.
As an expat living in Bangkok, I have had the pleasure of witnessing the discovery of pansexual and panromantic identities amongst those who have previously identified as bisexual. For them, the wealth of identities amongst the LGBTQI+community here opened up possibilities for relationships that, for some, were simply unknown in their home countries. Go Thailand!
Please do share what you are up this Pansexual and Panromantic Pride Day.
